Let's clear up some Firearm Misconceptions

Misconception

Revolvers are easier to shoot than Pistols.

Truth

Revolvers are not necessarily easier to shoot than other handguns. Training and education is key to understanding what to expect when firing a weapon. It’s important to take into consideration the firearm’s recoil, caliber, make and model.

Misconception

There are some firearms that are easier for women to shoot.

Truth

Guns aren’t gender-specific. The type of firearm a person may prefer is a personal choice and there isn’t a certain type of gun that is preferable for women or men. However, certain firearms may be marketed toward men or women.

We train women and men to be proficient with any firearm they would like to shoot.

Misconception

Once you buy a gun you don’t need to practice shooting.

Truth

Responsible firearm owners should become comfortable with their guns and improve their abilities. Like most kinetic skills, the ability to use a firearm well is a perishable skill. Also, California requires a Carry Concealed Weapons permit holder to renew every two years.

Misconception

Buying a gun is an easy thing to do.

Truth

In the state of California, the buyer must provide several forms of identification plus undergo a background check. There is also a 10-day waiting period after purchasing a gun, before the buyer can take possession. Obtaining a Carry Concealed Weapons permit is a lengthy process that requires broad discretion from the local sheriff’s department with training plus a paper application process.
